Hand-picked safety #4 – Friday 16 August, 2024

Hey there ๐Ÿ‘‹,

If you’re reading this email at the end of your week, when you look back over your week how do you feel about it?

Are you:

  • Annoyed with yourself about what you didn’t get done?
  • Replete with satisfaction with what you’ve accomplished?
  • White knuckling it until knock-off because you hate your job?

If you’re blissfully heading into the weekend having accomplished everything you set out to, scroll right on past this bit, you’ve already ascended this mountain!

But for the rest of us here’s something to try – write a “To Do” list for the next day you’re at work but call it “What would make x-day a good day”.

It could be as achievable as: “Tuesday would be a good day if I talked to someone I don’t usually” to as big as “Friday would be a good day if I finished the Safety Vision”.

Let me know if this works for you!

Libby & the SafetySocial team.

What problem are you solving?

Rory Sutherland’s great take on perspective – stay for the bit about “should trains be better or faster”.

My Big Safety Challenge

Hannah Sesay, VP of Safety, Health, and Environment at Ferguson

Why it’s worthwhile: Sesay has an engaging, pragmatic style and a wealth of experience. She provides a lot of insight on effective communication and safety leadership.

“…one of the things that I try to do is not to make them safe, boring, right? …it’s not about the presentation, it’s about the conversation, right? It Is how you speak, right? I’ve sat through meetings where safety people presented is the same tone. I call it the Death Valley presentation. Like you stay in a Death Valley, right?”ย
